If you’re craving a crunchy, salty (or slightly sweet) snack that’s completely plant-based, baked plantain chips are a perfect choice! They’re a healthier alternative to potato chips, easy to make at home, and only require a few simple ingredients. Plus, you can customize them with your favorite seasonings — from sea salt to spicy chili or even cinnamon for a sweet twist.
Why You’ll Love Baked Plantain Chips
Naturally gluten-free and vegan
Oil optional – you can bake them dry or with a light brush of oil for extra crispiness
Perfectly snackable – crunchy, golden, and addictive
Great for dipping – pair them with guacamole, salsa, or hummus
What You’ll Need
Ingredients:
2 medium plantains (green for savory, yellow for slightly sweet)
1–2 teaspoons olive oil or avocado oil (optional)
Sea salt, to taste
Optional seasonings: garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, or cinnamon
Equipment:
Sharp knife
Baking sheet
Silpat or parchment paper
How to Make Baked Plantain Chips
1. Preheat the oven
Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.
2. Peel the plantains
Trim both ends, slice down the skin lengthwise, and peel carefully. Green plantains can be a bit firm — use the tip of your knife to help lift the peel.
3. Slice thinly
Using a sharp knife slice the plantains into very thin rounds (about 1/8 inch or thinner). The thinner they are, the crispier they’ll bake!
4. Season
Place slices in a bowl, drizzle with a little olive oil if using, and toss with sea salt or your favorite spices.
5. Arrange and bake
Lay the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet with your Silpat (don’t overlap). Bake for 15–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crisp.
Keep an eye on them near the end — they can go from perfectly golden to burnt quickly!
6. Cool and enjoy
Once baked, let the chips cool for a few minutes — they’ll crisp up even more as they cool.
7.Dehydrate to get fully crispy
place on dehydrator trays and dry till as crunchy as you like them.

Flavor Variations
Savory: Sea salt + smoked paprika
Spicy: Chili powder + lime zest
Sweet: Cinnamon + coconut sugar (use ripe yellow plantains)
Herbed: Garlic powder + rosemary
Serving Ideas
Dip in guacamole, salsa, or hummus
Enjoy as a crunchy topping for salads or grain bowls
Pack them for on-the-go snacking
